Organizing a Large Fundraiser

golf fundraising
There are a variety of ways non-profit organizations can fundraise. A well-organized golf fundraiser may be the perfect way to raise money if it is organized well and managed effectively.

Charity golf tournaments should be scheduled during prime golf time to really get the maximum effect. When people are thinking about golf they will be more likely to join in the fun. Organizations should focus on getting the biggest turnout possible. Obviously with a bigger crowed more money would be made.

The first step will be promotion. Use posters that are high quality and always place them in high traffic areas. Use your resources. If you know someone that works at a large company ask if you can get a poster put up in their lunchroom. Also, focus on whom you are targeting. Place the posters in areas where you will attract the people you want to have attend the most.

Schedule the tournament at a smart time and choose a golf course that is perhaps less busy or at least schedule during a less busy time. This may be the perfect way to get a discount. With a substantial discount during an off time you will be able to pocket a much bigger portion of the proceeds. This will also allow you the opportunity to charge people a more reasonable fee for entering, competing or sponsoring the event.

Think about your sponsors. You can contact local businesses and show them what will be happening. Make sure the price is reasonable and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding participants. You may also need to search out larger corporations to sponsor the event. Again, use your resources. The final way you can find sponsors is by having each player get sponsors. Each player should be asked to raise a certain amount of money.  They can contact their neighbors and friends to assist.

Have fun! Make the event lively. Have great events. Hold a raffle. Host a silent auction. Have a prize for the winner. You can have brief contests such as the longest drive or the straightest drive. Make it light and make it so that people are engaged. Do you research online to utilize the many great ideas that are available.

It never hurts to have a guest appearance by someone well known. It will be easy to attract people to the event if they will see a celebrity or a popular golf pro. While you may not be able to get Tiger Woods, perhaps there is someone local that would be available and interested in helping out a charity event.

If you are having trouble organizing the event yourself you may want to seek out a fundraising consultant. They can be a great resource. While you will undoubtedly pay for their services, their skills and contacts and experience may end up getting you more money in the long run. And, after all, the fundraiser really is about making the most amount of money for your non-profit organization that you can with a single event. Make the most of it.

Think big and have fun when scheduling your next golf fundraiser. Make sure you use your resources wisely and plan a well-managed and organized tournament. Don’t feel that you can’t ask for help, contact those you know and specialists in fundraising to get the job done right.
