golf fundraising
There are a variety of ways non-profit organizations can fundraise. A well-organized golf fundraiser may be the perfect way to raise money if it is organized well and managed effectively.

Charity golf tournaments should be scheduled during prime golf time to really get the maximum effect. When people are thinking about golf they will be more likely to join in the fun. Organizations should focus on getting the biggest turnout possible. Obviously with a bigger crowed more money would be made.

The first step will be promotion. Use posters that are high quality and always place them in high traffic areas. Use your resources. If you know someone that works at a large company ask if you can get a poster put up in their lunchroom. Also, focus on whom you are targeting. Place the posters in areas where you will attract the people you want to have attend the most.

Schedule the tournament at a smart time and choose a golf course that is perhaps less busy or at least schedule during a less busy time. This may be the perfect way to get a discount. With a substantial discount during an off time you will be able to pocket a much bigger portion of the proceeds. This will also allow you the opportunity to charge people a more reasonable fee for entering, competing or sponsoring the event.

Think about your sponsors. You can contact local businesses and show them what will be happening. Make sure the price is reasonable and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding participants. You may also need to search out larger corporations to sponsor the event. Again, use your resources. The final way you can find sponsors is by having each player get sponsors. Each player should be asked to raise a certain amount of money.  They can contact their neighbors and friends to assist.

Have fun! Make the event lively. Have great events. Hold a raffle. Host a silent auction. Have a prize for the winner. You can have brief contests such as the longest drive or the straightest drive. Make it light and make it so that people are engaged. Do you research online to utilize the many great ideas that are available.

It never hurts to have a guest appearance by someone well known. It will be easy to attract people to the event if they will see a celebrity or a popular golf pro. While you may not be able to get Tiger Woods, perhaps there is someone local that would be available and interested in helping out a charity event.

If you are having trouble organizing the event yourself you may want to seek out a fundraising consultant. They can be a great resource. While you will undoubtedly pay for their services, their skills and contacts and experience may end up getting you more money in the long run. And, after all, the fundraiser really is about making the most amount of money for your non-profit organization that you can with a single event. Make the most of it.

Think big and have fun when scheduling your next golf fundraiser. Make sure you use your resources wisely and plan a well-managed and organized tournament. Don’t feel that you can’t ask for help, contact those you know and specialists in fundraising to get the job done right.

1) Golf fundraisers - One creative fundraising activity that can help raise money for any cause is a golf fundraiser. A golf fundraiser can prove to be quite lucrative and entertaining at the same time. Golf courses are usually very open to hosting the event as it drives traffic and increases awareness to their course. Golf fundraisers also have a lot of sponsorship opportunities available to raise additional money on top of the player’s fees. Opportunities such as sponsoring a hole, an event title sponsor, player and team sponsors and cash bar carts that cater to the players. This type of fund raiser is a win-win-win situation. The golf course gets additional promotion and traffic; the players get to enjoy themselves with a round of golf and the non-profit raises money and awareness for their cause.

2) School fundraisers – School fundraising is part of most parent’s lives. At one point or another your child will come home with a school fundraising event or you’ll be in charge of running one. Some traditional ideas include car washes, raffles and printing and selling cookbooks. Other products have emerged in the past couple of years that are creative and useful. Products such as pre-paid phone cards and store discount cards. These cards can be purchased at different value levels and customized with school logos and photos. They’re useful products that have up to a 40% profit margin. And the best part about them is that the products are small in size so our kids and we the parents won’t break our backs carrying the products form door to door when we’re out trying to sell them.

3) Charity fundraisers – Like school fundraisers, people have come up with some unique charity fundraising events. Some charities will hold annual events where they wine and dine their guests while holding silent and live auctions. It’s also helpful if you plan these types of events towards the end of the year and remind guests of the tax benefits. Other charities have utilized the actual building of their non-profit shelters as a fund raiser. They give people the opportunity to sponsor the build out with title sponsorship of the building, a room, a hall or even down to sponsoring a brick. It’s a great way to raise money and give the community a feeling of ownership in the cause, plus it can make for a great media story. Depending on your cause organizing a walk or run is another great way to raise funds and get the community and local media involved.

So whether you’re helping your kids raise money for school or fighting to raise awareness for your favorite cause there are many resources out there to help you. Companies are creating special products that can be customized to promote any cause. Golf courses are opening their doors to host events and construction companies are thinking out of the box and allowing the purchase and creation of a building customized brick by brick. There are even companies that you can hire that will create and activate fundraising events on your behalf with including all staffing needs. So next time you’re in that brainstorming meeting think of these ideas and keep in mind the win-win benefits for each partner and it’s sure to be a success.

Golf fundraisers can prove to be a profitable success if you plan with the thought of location, PR angle, and prizes. Here are three tips to planning a golf fundraiser that’s sure to be a profitable success.

1)    Location, Location, Location

Location isn’t so much the geographical area, but a place where the venue will give you a good deal and support. You want to hold a golf fundraiser at a location that will discount your fees and be supportive. When presenting the ideas to different golf places it’s best to do it in person and talk to the golf shop manager. If they’re familiar with holding charity golf tournaments then they’ll probably be familiar with discounting fees and picking days that will give you the most opportunity to fill tee times. When your discussing the partnership potential don’t be afraid to ask about past successes and challenges with other groups. It’s always good to learn what others have done so you can integrate the good and eliminate the bad. If you secure a location with minimal fees that’s your first step to making a higher profit margin.

2)    PR Angle

Once you’ve secured the location it’s time to implement a PR plan to maximize exposure. First you need to layout out the game of golf that will be played that day. Will it be 9 holes or 18 holes of golf? Will you implement a contest on different holes? Will this be a celebrity golf tournament or will it be best out of four? Celebrity golf fundraisers are ideal because it has PR appeal and it’s an enticement for golfers to sign up. Don’t let the word “celebrity” scare you. Start by looking local such as local athletes from football, baseball, basketball or hockey teams. Then look at your local government, some people would get a kick out of golfing with the Mayor. Then think about TV and music, is there an actor or musician that grew up in your local town? Is there a public figure that openly supports your cause? If you’ve exhausted all your celebrity leads, don’t worry, you can still have a successful golf fundraiser by creating contests and giving away big prizes.

3)    Securing Prizes

One way to solicit fabulous prizes is to call up your local sports teams. You can even make it a part of the first phone call to them when you were inquiring about athletes playing in your tournament. When they give you the news that the athletes are not able to play in your tournament, ask for a prize instead to help with the cause. Prizes can range from autographed jerseys, autographed balls, and autographed photos, tickets to a game or even a prize package of sports merchandise. You can do the same thing with corporations. When you present corporations with a title sponsorship or hole sponsorship package include a prize in the presentation. Then even if they don’t purchase the complete sponsorship they can donate

in-kind materials. Before you know it you’ll have plenty of prizes and your problem will be to create fun contests so that you can give them away.

Creating contests within a golf tournament is the fun part. This will add the icing on the cake for those who are participating. Ideally, you would want to add a prize per hole, an overall best score prize, longest drive and maybe even some fun prizes such as worst score and best golf outfit. By starting with these three basic tips you’re sure to have a golf fundraiser that will end in the black.

First things first you have to plan then plan and finally plan some more. The more organized you the fundraiser planner are the better your fundraiser will be. With a golfing fundraiser you will need to write a proposal, look for local sponsor ship, find a celebrity, locate a venue and advertise.

Your proposal should start with why you are fundraising is this to support a specific mission within your church or are you fundraising for a local cause. Your reason for fundraising must always be well defined. The second item in your proposal should be how much money you want to raise. Are you fundraising for a simple $1000 or are your goals much loftier. Be clear and concise. This always makes donors more open and willing to donate to your fundraiser.

Your next step in setting up your golfing fundraiser is to look for local sponsor ship. Contact local merchants and small business owners who may be willing to sponsor your fundraiser in exchange for some free advertising. If merchants know that a high traffic fundraiser like your golf fundraiser is available they may like putting there name out there. This serves two purposes, the first gains you credibility and funds and secondly it makes local merchants look good in the community.

Third on your list is to find a celebrity. If you live in a large enough community where you have television and radio stations you can invite a local personality to support your fundraiser. If someone in your organization has a contact for a big name celebrity what a great way to draw publicity to your golfing fundraiser.

Fourth on your list to put on a successful golf fundraiser is to locate a venue. Speak with all the local golf courses in your area about possible donating or giving you discounted greens fees. If you already have a celebrity signed up the golf courses may like the idea of a celebrity on there course. This becomes a great way for the golf course to advertise as well as looking generous by supporting your fundraiser.

Finally it is time to advertise. Advertise by all the means possible. Pull out all the stops as you advertise by print in newspapers and flyers. By air over the television and on radio. And the most valuable method of all is word of mouth. If your donors are excited about your golfing fundraiser they will surely talk it up to there friends and neighbors.

By following these guidelines and suggestions you will have an amazing golf fundraiser that just might become an annual event.
